Karinding is a project supported by Jendela Ide, cultural institution for children & youth to stimulate young talented musicians playing with intuition and imagination.
Karinding is a small bamboo music instrument, played harmonically in a group and produced beautiful vibrations. We hope through a process of musical dialog Karinding Collaborative Project could bring good vibrations to the musicians and listeners.
Karinding collaborative project musicians are:
- Bintang Manira, born in Bandung 1991. Interested in music, dance & visual art since his earlier years. Start to learn percussion when he was 9 years at Jendela Ide with Djaelani, Adjierao, Dadi, Ziner and Rumah Musik Harry Roesli. Specifically playing djembe, timbales, drums, Sundanese kendang.
- Yudi Taruna Di Swara, born in Bandung 1980. In 1996 entered Traditional Music High School in Bandung, focusing on kecapi and graduated from Indonesian Institute of Art Bandung. Learning from diverse traditional music specialist and start to perform at age16. Joined Zithermania as a musician from 1999 until 2002.
- Wawan Kurniawan (Awenk), born in Bandung 1985. Interested in traditional culture, especially from West Java. Learning traditional, modern & contemporary music and become a student of SMKN 10. Studying at UPI (music program). Performed at ‘Pentas Komponis Muda’ at Taman Budaya, 2000. Participated in Festival of Contemporary Music in Germany and stayed 2 months for residency. Joined Karinding Collaborative Project since September 2007.
- Egon Firman, born in Bandung 1986. Studying psychology, but totally enjoy playing keyboard. Performed with diverse music groups. Performed at Java Jazz 2007. Joined Karinding Collaborative Project in 2009.
- Iman Rahman, born in Bandung 1986. Interested in jazz-fusion and push his bass guitar unto the limits. As a student of Parahyangan University his debut mostly on campus performances. Played at Java Jazz 2009. Joined Karinding Collaborative Project in 2009.
